Denver Detour

Denver Detour, A popular bar serving the GLBT community, is back, and better than ever. In Early 2008 the Denver detour pulled up stakes from its longtime location a few blocks east of Broadway and moved to the west side of town, settling at 5110 West Colfax Ave. (former home of The Den).

According to owner Sheila, Denver Detour is prospering at its new digs and has found a solid footing in the intense local competition for GLBT entertainment dollars. The new location is working out very well. As the western-most gay bar in the city, we are in a unique position to serve those in our community that might not want to come all the way downtown. We are looking forward to seeing many new faces in addition to our loyal regulars.

Just east of Sheridan on Colfax, The new location offers patrons several distinct upgrades. Most Prominently, the new Detour has a smoking patio, ending that recent bar room dilemma of have a drink or a smoke.

Even as Denver Detour has relocated, many of the beloved features of the old bar remain unchanged. The new location still pours cold beer on tap. Karaoke, a Detour favorite, will continue the second and the last Fridays of the month.

Denver Detour holds happy hour Monday through Saturday from 4pm to 8pm. It features Spaghetti Night and a number of drink specials on Sunday. The kitchen is open daily at 11 a.m. to 11p.m., specializing in Mexican food. There are also a variety of lunch specials every weekday.

The Denver Detour Initially opened its doors in 1984, “It was a dream come true,” says Sheila.

Sheila hopes to bring more local musical talent to Denver Detour’s stage. She would also like her business to host benefits for the Imperial Court and other GLBT organizations, such as the Rocky Mountain Regional Rodeo, dykes on Bikes and Project Angel Heart.

The Detour will be trying to focus on community spirit and hopefully bring together a more positive community responsibility to our future generations, while closing the gap between our gay male and lesbian clientele. And have some fun doing it!
